Shingles

Composition / AsphaClick to visit project gallerylt Shingles

The most widely used roofing material is the composition shingle.Composed of a base material that provides support for the weather-resistance components and gives a shingle strength; asphalt and fillers; and surfacing materials, generally in the form of mineral granules, that provide protection from impact and UV degradation and improves fire resistance.Shingles require low maintenance and can in most cases be walked on without damaging the material. Most brands offer a Class A fire protection.

Composition shingles come in a large selection of brands, types and colors.Shingles are produced in a single layer or in two or more layers, known as laminated or architectural shingles. Some architectural designs replicate other roofing materials such as wood or slate. You will find a “good/better/best” selection from most manufacturers, with varying warranties.

Click to visit project galleryWood Shakes & Shingles

Wood shakes and shingles offer a natural look with a lot of character. They are manufactured from western red cedar, split from logs and reshaped. Although wood offers some energy benefits, it demands proper maintenance and repair.Mold, rot and insects can be a problem.Pressure-treating shakes with fire retardants that meet national fire safety standards, helps to extend the life of the wood and provides better fire protection.

The installation of a wood shake or shingle roof is more complicated than that of a composition shingle roof. The quality of a finished wood roof depends on the experience of the contractor as well as the caliber of the shakes used.

Tile

Clay Tiles Click to visit project gallery

Authentic clay roofing tile is a good choice for homes with a southwestern, Italian,  Mediterranean  or Spanish Mission design. Even perfect for homes with a modern, clean look or European concept.

Clay tiles may be glazed and can also have surface texture treatments. As a result, there are a wide variety of tile profiles, styles, finishes and colors available. The best detailed designs and authentic old world finishes utilitze clay tile material.

The expected lifespan of clay tile is greater than the lifespan of the material on which to roofing rests.Clay tiles do not rot or burn and cannot be harmed by insects. Tiles are fragile, so someone walking on them without the knowledge/experience can break them. Due to the weight of clay tile, special consideration must be taken for the required roof support.

Concrete Tiles

Concrete roof tiles are manufactured from a variety of fiber-reinforced cement products, in full and lighter-weight versions.Tiles come in a wide variety of profiles, styles finishes and colors.

The advantages of concrete tiles vary from product to product, but generally they all have a long lifespan, require low maintenance, offer good fire protection and are resistant to rot and insects. Due to the weight of the tile, some consideration for the roof support is required.

Many tiles mimic the appearance of wood shakes, while improving on the durability and fire protection that real wood affords. Concrete tiles can also approximate the look of clay tile or slate at generally a lower cost.

Authentic Slate

Authentic slate roofing is actual shingle-like slivers of rock (slate).Although slate is an expensive choice, it offers a very natural look and can be laid out in a variety of patterns.

The benefits of slate are identical to those of tile: a very long lifespan, good fire protection, low maintenance, and an invulnerability to rot and insects. It comes in a good selection of sizes and colors, although colors are limited to those found in nature.

Like tile, slate can be very heavy, and requires extensive roof support considerations. It too is breakable enough that walking on it is difficult for a

non-professional.

These roofing membranes are utilized for low-slope roof areas as well as balconies/walking decks.PVC sheets come in ranges from 6 to 12 feet and are typically in thicknesses from 45mils to 90 mils.Seams are sealed by heat or chemical welding. Warranties vary by product.

PVC membranes are produced in numerous colors, though gray and white are the most common, and some come with patterns.

TPO

Thermoplastic Polyolefin single-ply roofing. This roofing material can be fully adhered and mechanically fastened. TPO seam strengths are reported to be three to four times higher than EPDM roofing systems. This is a popular choice for "Green" building. It is available in a wide variety of colors. Using

white roof material helps reduce the "heat island effect" and solar heat gain in the building.
